1876-1922
This period was developed in the late 1800s and late 1900s, but mainly started after 1908, when the Young Turks took power. This period was intended to promote Ottoman "patriotism and self-identity," but resulted in the new "Turkish sense of patriotism" (Wikipedia). This style of architecture was completely new and not just revamping previous styles, which is why this is also called the "Ottoman Revival." The "architecture of this period was based on modern construction techniques and materials such as reinforced concrete, iron, steel and often glass roofs" (Wikipedia). The exterior focused mostly on traditional "Ottoman" designs. These designs include mostly pointed arches, detailed tile decoration, longer roof overhangs, domes, and many more. In Istanbul, Raimondo D'Aronco and Alexander Vallaury were famous architects of this time. In addition, the Balyan family and Serkiz Löle Gizo were other contributial architects.
