1299-1437
During this period mosques were very new and styles were just starting to grow. In Bursa and Edirne at this time, the domed architectural style was born. In ancient times, domes were constructed with bricks and layed down in a domed structure (similar to creating igloos). Domes were often covered in mud and metal was attached. In addition, arches became a popular styling technique. To create arches, a temporary arched wooden frame was placed down and bricks were layed on top (in an arch) and cemented togehter. Then, the frame was removed and an arch was built.
Some famous mosques from this time period include:
-
Aslanhane Mosque, Ankara
-
Bursa Grand Mosque, Bursa
-
